Dawn Baker Joins the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools in Teaching Character Education to Students

Dawn’s Daughter: Everything a Woman Needs to Know and the companion workbook, which will soon be released, have been aligned with three important educational initiative/standards:

Character Counts! Six Pillars of Character

Dawn’s Daughter: Everything a Woman Needs to Know, Dawn Baker’s popular self-help book for teens and young adults has been integrated into the character education through the Character Counts! national initiative. The book, which is a complete guide to a successful and fulfilling personal and professional life, is a valuable tool which brings a fresh new approach to teaching character education to students. The lessons taught in Dawn’s Daughter: Everything a Woman Needs to Know are the exact values outlined in the Character Counts! initiative, the most widely implemented approach to character education, reaching millions of youth. Character Counts! is a framework centered on basic values called the Six Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship, all of which are taught in Dawn’s Daughter. Dawn was very excited to learn that Character Counts!, a nationally recognized program developed by the Josephson Institute has been adopted by the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum and the Savannah Chatham County Public School System to help instill better character in students. Dawn is honored to join the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum and the Chatham County School District in helping to improve the personal and professional lives of our children.

Just as Character Counts! intertwines seamlessly into the curriculum that the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum and the Chatham County Public School District are already teaching, Character Counts ! also intertwines with every aspect of Dawn’s book, the companion workbook (which will soon be released), and her goal of helping every child become the BEST he/she can become. Students need the correct tools to be successful in school and life. The Character Counts! Initiative uses the six universal character traits of Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship are addressed in every chapter of Dawn’s Daughter. The academics of English language arts, literature, science, social studies, history and even math lessons which are taught on a daily basis are integrated with the Character Counts! Six Traits of Character as well as with the values included in Dawn’s Daughter.

Georgia Career, Technical, Career and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Foundation Skills Standards/Work Ethics Standards

In addition to the Six Pillars of Character, the book also focuses on the Georgia Career, Technical, Career and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Foundation Skills Standards/ Work Ethics Standards. According to GeorgiaStandards.Org, the CTAE Foundation Skills are aligned to the foundation of the U. S. Department of Education’s 16 Career Clusters. Endorsed by the National Career Technical Education Foundation (NCTEF) and the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium (NASDCTEc), the foundation skills were developed from an analysis of all pathways in the sixteen occupational areas. These standards were identified and validated by a national advisory group of employers, secondary and postsecondary educators, labor associations, and other stakeholders. The Knowledge and Skills provide learners a broad foundation for managing lifelong learning and career. Dawn’s Daughter: Everything a Woman Needs to Know also provides learners a foundation for managing lifelong learning and career.

Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS)

Georgia joined with 47 other states well over a year ago to develop a set of core standards for K12 in English language arts and mathematics. These standards provide a consistent framework to prepare students for success in college and/or the 21st Century workplace. These standards represent a common sense next step from the Georgia Performance Standards. The Georgia State Board of Education adopted the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS) on July 8, 2010. This year educators across Georgia began teaching the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS) in mathematics, English language arts, as well as literacy in science, social studies, and technical subjects. This means that students will gain rigorous knowledge and skills needed to succeed in college and/or careers. Dawn’s Daughter: Everything a Woman Needs to Know and each activity in the companion workbook have been aligned to the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS).
